Driving Through life!

Updated: Aug 22

I was on a flight to Glasgow and looking for a different inflight movie to occupy my time.

I came across a French film.

“Driving Madeleine “

A gem! I had no idea what to expect.

The premis of the movie was a 92 year old and her adventure with the Taxi driver.  From a simple drive across Paris to an old age home.

As the story unfolded two underlying themes!

The lovely elderly person sharing a profound reality of her past revealing the physical abuse and where women in the 50’s had no real rights despite all the advancements at the time.

However, the dominating theme how the taxi driver and the the senior share an immediate warmth and friendship finding different ways to avoid arriving to the institution too soon.

Really brought home how time can be eternal.

How societal norms can effect a persons life.

As the day progressed the two actually relived her life  visiting places as if time stood still.

Intrigued me in every way !

What resonated with me such kindness from a perfect stranger.

How she reveals to him the good, the bad and the ugly. How she lived on her own terms the best that she could fighting her demons.

So many life lessons as they unravel.

How he honours this elderly woman by simply paying attention and treating her like she matters.

Today’s society we are so busy ignoring the elderly . The Taxi driver touched by this woman and altered him in every way.

As the Taxi driver is driving through the streets of Paris, is there a parallel as the film unfolds how each one navigated there lives? I think so if we dive even deeper.

It is a reminder about taking the opportunity to listen to others but also to our elders when they are sharing their experiences and wisdom.

Or maybe we can  see that time has no beginning and souls are eternal, and if maybe just maybe time is eternally supporting a transformation of our souls through kindness and love.

As we navigate through our lives and becoming aware that only the present should be experienced and cherished. There might not be a tomorrow .

I won’t give away the ending but it is definitely an opportunity to really reflect your mortality with this short and incredible life we have here on earth!

Take care my lovelies!
